What is the Millennium Bug??

Here is the problem: computers store years as TWO digits to save memory. 1999 is just "99". So at midnight on January 1st, 2000, every unprepared computer will think it is January 1st, 1900!! Your bank! The power grid! My hit counter!! Experts predict anything from "nothing happens" to "the end of civilization", which is quite a range if you ask me.

Will planes fall from the sky? Probably not. Will my VCR survive? It is already blinking 12:00, so honestly, how would I even tell?

My preparations so far

[X] Printed entire website on paper (3 reams, double-sided)
[X] Backed up homepage to 47 floppy disks (labeled!)
[X] Taught family Morse code (they refuse to practice)
[X] Stockpiled canned surströmming (worst case: trade goods)
[X] Asked DR. ELIZA if she is Y2K compliant (she deflected the question)
[ ] Learned abacus (in progress, carrying the 1 is hard)
[ ] Convinced wife this is not an overreaction

VCR	BLINKING 12:00 SINCE 1996 (unaffected)
Toaster	NOT APPLICABLE (analog, thankfully)
Hit counter CGI script	AT RISK - two-digit year!!

December 31st, 1999 will be the BIGGEST party night in a thousand years. If civilization is ending, we might as well celebrate properly! Being a man of the future, I have (obviously) built party planning tools for exactly this:
